Top 10 Tamil albums 2013

10.Endrendrum Punnagai-Harris Jayaraj

It was a candyfloss album with some peppy numbers. 'Vaan engum nee minna' & 'Yele yele dosthu' became chartbusters while the enthralling 'Kadal naan than' & the melodious 'Ennai saaithaale' appealed to music lovers. Though Harris was found to be repetitive, the pleasant album made its way to my personal list of top ten.

9.Biryani-Yuvan Shankar Raja

Personally, I did not like this album much at the first listen since it did not contain any melodies. But soon the high voltage numbers like 'Nah nah nah', 'Edhirthu nil' & 'Pom pom penne' got into my nerves. Yuvan has taken his compositions to the next level and he knows how to connect with the youngsters.

8.Vathikuchi-M.Ghibran

M.Ghibran proved with this album that he is a contemporary music composer. From the musically rich numbers like 'Kuru kuru kannale' & 'Kanna kanna' to peppy and racy numbers like 'Amma wake me up' & 'Ari unnai', Ghibran threw sweet surprises to the audience.

7.Vanakkam Chennai-Anirudh Ravichander

This soundtrack became immensely popular due to Anirudh's stamp all over. It had some good enjoyable numbers like 'Osaka osaka' 'Oh penne penne' 'Ailasa ailasa' 'Engadi porandha'. Anirudh also created Chennai's anthem 'Chennai city gangsta' which became a chartbuster.

6.Varuthapadatha Valibar Sangam-D.Imman

Imman is known for belting out melodious songs as well as rural numbers. He proved his mettle with this rustic yet commercial album. Ranging from the melodious 'Paakadha paakadha' to the foot tapping 'Oodha coloru ribbon', this soundtrack was entirely colourful.

5.Ethir Neechal-Anirudh Ravichander

Yet another Anirudh's album. Ethir Neechal was much better than Vanakkam Chennai in terms of composition. The album was enjoyed as a whole instead of particular numbers. Tracks like 'Bhoomi enna suthudhe' 'Velicha poove va' 'Nijamellam marandhu pochu' and 'Ethir neechal adi' were chartbusters and they were on air for a long time.

4.Kadal-A.R.Rahman

A.R.Rahman and Mani Rathinam are synonym to each other. Almost all of Mani's movies with ARR as the composer have broken records. So does Kadal! The entire album was mellifluous and ARR had forayed into different musical genres. It was evident in the offbeat 'Adiye' and the enjoyable 'Elay keechan'. The two beautiful melodies 'Nenjukulle' & 'Moongil thottam' came out as sureshot winners.

3.Raja Rani-G.V.Prakash

Well, this album made it to the top 3!!! That itself shows how grandeur it is. One could listen to different genres in this soundtrack. The acapella 'Hey baby', breezy 'Chillena', romantic folksy 'Angnyaade', peppy 'Oday oday' and the melodious 'Imaye imaye' were the gems of this album. It was another feather in G.V's cap.

2.Irandaam Ulagam-Harris Jayaraj,Anirudh Ravichander

It was one of the magnificient albums of the year where Harris composed out of his comfort zone. Though his magical touch was present in melodious songs like 'Kanimozhiye' 'Mannavane mannavane' & 'Vinnaithaandi anbe', numbers like 'En kaadhal thee' 'Raakozhi raakozhi' and 'Pazhangkalla' were quiet different compositions. Guest composer Anirudh belted out two numbers which were also wonderful.

1.Mariyaan-A.R.Rahman

And here comes the album of the year!!! Mariyaan was an out and out Rahman feast. The album climbed up the charts and stayed on the top for many weeks. The popular musical numbers were the breezy romantic songs 'Innum konjam neram' & 'Netru aval irundhal', the energetic foot tapping tracks 'Sonapareeya' & 'Kadal raasa naan', the love anthem 'Nenje ezhu' and the pathos 'Enga pona raasa'. The songs were played repeatedly in all the radio stations and it became even more famous with the movie's release.

Special mentions:

Arrambam,Thalaiva,Naiyyaandi,Naveena Saraswathi Sabadham,Pandiyanaadu and All in all azhagu raja.
