K.Balakrishnan is debuting with this movie which has Vijay Sethupathi in the lead and Gayathri paired opposite him. D.Imman has composed music and lyrics are written by Yugabharathi.

1.Koodamela Koodavechi-V.V.Prasanna,Vandana Srinivasan

The very first track of the album instantly hooks you on. It is a simple and sweet melody with pleasant rustic touches. V.V.Prasanna quips in few lines that shows his versatility in singing. The honey dipped voice of Vandana Srinivasan is the one thing that is irresistible in this track. It is one of the finest melodies that has come out in recent times. A chartbuster duet!!!

2.Adiye Enna Raagam-Abhay Jodhpurkar,Poornima Sathish

As the title of the song suggests, it overflows with my favourite raaga Keeravani. It is yet another mesmerising melody and you get the feel of listening to one of Ilaiyaraja's classics based on Keeravani raaga. More than the background music, the vocals play a major role in this breezy song. Abhay Jodhpurkar joins the bandwagon of melody singers with his sugar-filled voice and Poornima Sathish's aalaaps in the prelude and interlude are simply superb!!

3.Oru Nodi-D.Imman,Divya Ramani

Wow!! Yet another melody. Imman's raw composition is catchy and romantic right from the beginning. His approach is so simple that the entire number ends up as a Maestro's work. Imman himself renders this song which makes it more appealing while Divya Ramani's rustic voice is excellent, especially when she reaches the high pitch. The beautiful shehnai sounds throughout the song is pleasant to the ears.

4.Yethukaaga Enna Neeyum-Santhosh Hariharan,A.V.Pooja

Well, I think Imman doesn't get fed up with creating lovable melodies. Based on Malayamarutha raaga, this number is the one which paints the entire album to completion. The foot tapping beats go in a rhythmic pace making this number even more interesting. Imman uses his creativity to the core by using guitar and violin alternatively for the interludes. Super Singer contestants Santhosh and Pooja are splendid in crooning this sweet melody.

5.Yethukaaga Enna Neeyum(Instrumental)

This is the violin version of the previous song, played to perfection by violinist Karthik Iyer. It just as marvellous as the original piece!!

Verdict:

This soundtrack is definitely Imman's masterpiece as he has let himself free while composing such lovable melodies. Go, grab this album and you will not regret for it!!!

Endrendrum Punnagai Music Review

Ahmed, director of Vaamanan is coming up with his new movie Endrendrum Punnagai which has big names like Jiiva and Trisha. Harris Jayaraj has composed music for this urban youth movie.

 

 

1.Yele Yele Dosthu-Krish,Krishna Iyer,Naresh Iyer

It is a typical friendship song. The tune is just similar to Vinnaithaandi anbe from Irandam Ulagam. Even the orchestration and the beats are same as the previous song. So you get to hear a version two of the former song. Though the track is foot tapping and gives a pumped up youthy feeling, it isn't a good start to the album.

2.Ennai Saaithaale-Hariharan,Shreya Ghoshal

It is a soft and breezy romantic duet that has Harris' stamp over it. The first line of the song has touches of Rahman's compositions. But the comparison stops there. The song moves in its own unique style. The use of saxophone in the interlude shows Harris' trademark. Hariharan is excellent as usual and Shreya Ghoshal complements him well. But this track doesnt match up to Harris Jayaraj's previous duets.

3.Kadal Naan Thaan-Suzanne D'Mello,Sudha Ragunathan,MK Balaji

This number is the highlight of the album. Right from the flute prelude in the beginning till the end, it keeps you in a state of trance. The slow bass beats and mystical tune makes this song a runaway hit. With her marshmallow voice, Suzanne rocks in the first stanza of the song while Sudha Ragunathan comes as a surprise as it is not a song meant for her voice. Overall, a different composition by Harris!!!

4.Vaan Engum-Aalaap Raju,Devan Ekambaram,Harini,Pravin Saivi

Harris has come up with a peppy number with a catchy tune. While the song gives a pleasant feeling, the beats are similar to Manjal Veiyil Maalai from Vetaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu. Aalaap Raju is good in delivering his lines while Harini provides the classical touches. Overall, this track sparkles only in bits and pieces. It gives you a deja vu feeling which is quiet common in Harris' songs.

5.Othaiyile-Abhay Jodhpurkar,Tippu,Bhargavi

This is an extension of Nalla Nanban from Nanban. Based on the same mood, Harris composes yet another song on friendship. The slow qawwali beats provides a whip of fresh air in this otherwise average tune. Lyrics by Kabilan are impressive. But the song falls short of expectations. The singers Abhay Jodhpurkar and Tippu are the only saving factors of this track.

6.Ennatha Solla-Karthik,Haricharan,Ramesh Vinayagam,Velmurugan

A digitalized soft folk that speaks about the dangers of falling in love and marriage. Harris has tried his hand at composing a different number but he fails miserably. The song struggles between different genres and ends up as a unimpressive one. The singers also have found difficult to croon this number as it hasn't got a proper construction. This particular song can be given a miss!!

Verdict:

Harris Jayaraj should think out of  the box and should stop giving old wine in a new bottle. There was a lot of expectations after the album of Irandam Ulagam but Harris fails to deliver his usual chartbusters.

Ram-Leela Music Review

"Ram-Leela" is Sanjay Leela Bhansali's another love epic, an Indian adaptation of Romeo-Juliet. Music for the movie has also been composed by the director who had previously composed for his 2010 movie "Guzaarish". Lets see whether he has done justice to his songs.

1.Ang Laga De Re-Aditi Paul,Shail Hada

A sensuous track which flows with love, love and more love. This haunting melody instantly hooks on to on the very first listen. With the spiritual chorus in the "Ram ratan man.." line, the song entirely jumps into the romantic world. Indial Idol contestant Aditi Paul renders the number beautifully in her own unique way and Shail Hada's humming in the interlude is excellent. A magical track, not to be missed!!!

2.Dhoop Se-Shreya Ghoshal

It is a slow solo number that has a rather low tempo and a good stock tune. This track holds similarity to many of the evergreen melodies of Lata Mangeshkar. The heroine here is our nightingale Shreya Ghoshal who croons this beautiful love song amazingly. Though it is a short number, it stays with you for a long time.

3.Ishqyaun Dhishqyaun-Aditya Narayanan

This track is entirely filled with fun and frolic. With the repetitive digitalized flute interludes and funny words like "Ishqyaun Dhisqyaun..", this number is purely enjoyable. But it has an average tune construction and the length of the track also tests our patience. Aditya Narayanan sounds much like his father Udit Narayanan in many places. Nevertheless, his voice suits best for this number.

4.Laal Ishq-Arjit Singh

"Wow" is the only word that comes to mind as you listen to this song. Based on Sufi music, this track is entirely spiritual and divine. A contemporary composition that sways between many classical genres. The sound of temple bells and the heavenly chants "Laal Ishq.." makes this number entirely situational. It is refreshing to hear Arjit Singh (Tum hi ho) in his Hindustani avatar. His voice mesmerizes the listener. This track would surely appeal to classical music lovers.

5.Lahu Munh Lag Gaya-Shail Hada

This song incorporates all the Gujarati elements and goes into a love mode with folk as its base. The instruments used in this track stand out and deserves a special applause. This number reminds us of Aankhon ki Gustakhiyan track from HDDCS. With beautiful poetic lyrics and some good singing by Shail Hada, this track is yet another situational one that might appeal to only a particular group of listeners.

6.Mor Bani Thanghat Kare-Osman Mir,Aditi Paul

It is a traditional Gujarati track that has an addictive tune. It is constructed and arranged in a good rhythmic pace. This number would become popular once the visuals are out. Sufi singer Osman Mir yields the megaphone with ease and Aditi Paul has nothing much to do here. The lyrics "Mor Bani Thanghat Kare..." by Rabindranath Tagore has been used here well by Siddharth-Garima. Overall, a passable number.

7.Nagada Sang Dhol Baje-Shreya Ghoshal,Osman Mir

Here comes the chartbuster of the album. This highly energetic Garba number gets you onto the dance floor. The Dhol beats are simply irresistible and makes you go crazy as the song progresses. It is almost like a sequel to the Dholi Taro Dhol Baje number from HDDCS. No one could have done justice to this song other than Shreya Ghoshal. She is high on energy and adds spice to the track. An exhilirating song that drives you all the way to Gujarat!!!

8.Poore Chand-Shail Hada

Remember Chand Chupa Badal Mein from HDDCS? Well, I think Bhansali has not got over his addiction for songs that contain Chand(Moon). This track is a soulful romantic number that has a few memorable lines. Sung passionately by Shail Hada, this one captures the listener and leaves you wanting for more. A good number!!!

9.Ram Chahe Leela-Bhoomi Trivedi

This track kick starts with peppy beats and has high Gujarati influence. It is a fierce track that might appear at an important point in the movie. With Priyanka Chopra making a special appreance in this number, it is sure to rock the charts for a long time. Bhoomi Trivedi, another Indian Idol contestant debuts with this song and she is simply awesome in delivering this song. Another chartbuster!!!

10.Tattad Tattad-Aditya Narayanan

This one is a masti number. It is entirely entertaining and the catchy,repetitive "Tattad tattad.." brings a smile on your lips. Aditya Narayanan comes again with a track that his suitable for his voice. This song has already been promoted with a lot of promos and is already a chartbuster. Need to say more???

Verdict:

Though it has the Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam hangover, it has its unique way of representing the songs. With a mix of folk, romantic and classical numbers, this album would surely find a place in 100 best soundtracks to listen. It is soulful and refreshing to hear good music being created in a generation where commercial songs are in vogue. A musically rich album, go for it!!! Kudos to Sanjay Leela Bhansali!!!

"All In All Azhagu Raja" is director Rajesh's fourth outing after his succesful movies like "Siva Manasula Sakthi", "Boss Engira Baskaran" & "Oru Kal Oru Kannadi". Having teamed up with Yuvan Shankar Raja for the first two movies, he roped in Harris Jayaraj for OKOK. Now he has joined hands with S.S.Thaman. Lets see how the songs have come up.

1.All In All-Suchith Suresan,Senthil Das,Sam P.Keerthan,Belly Raj

The track opens with an energetic chorus and moves into the foot tapping mode. The entire song is sung by a group of singers as a chorus. The lyrics are funny and the advertisement sound in the interlude peps up the number. Though its just like any other hero introduction song, it gives a mass start to the album.

2.Yaarukum Sollama-Rahul Nambiar

It is a light hearted song with a simple melody flowing throughout. The slight folksy beats, the swaram aalaap and the female chorus are added advantages in this beautiful number. The repetitive "Chellam...chellam" is pleasant to the ears. Rahul Nambiar has done a great job in crooning this song. Overall, this one is not to be missed and it is the highlight of the album.

3.Unna Paartha Neram-Vijay Yesudhas,Srivardhini

As you begin listening to this track, you will get rewinded back to the 80s. You get an ethereal feeling of listening to a modernised Ilaiyaraja classic. This track comes as a whip of fresh air in Kollywood music after a long time. The honey dipped lyrics are worth mentioning. Vijay Yesudhas is the perfect choice for this number and Srivardhini gels well along with him. Hope Thaman could have eliminated the modern chorus in the prelude and interlude as it diminishes the evergreen beauty of the song.

4.Ore oru-Javed Ali

This number begins with an angelic Church choir and you would feel that it might be a spiritual song. But once the "Mangalyam" line starts you are in for a surprise. It turns out to be a youthy romantic number with a slight folk touch. Javed Ali renders this short number with elan. However this song gives you the already heard feeling.

5.Yamma Yamma-Sooraj Santhosh,Shreya Ghoshal

It is a typical fast paced number that has Thaman stamp on it. It is a highly adrenalin pumping song which is quite common nowadays. Sooraj Santhosh does his part well while Shreya Ghoshal's talent has been wasted. Though it ends the album with a happy note, it can be given a miss.

Verdict:

Barring a couple of songs which Thaman has composed out of his comfort zone, the other tracks are just passable and normally you would find such songs in Rajesh's movies.

Keeravani Raga - Tamil songs in Keeravani, the endearing raga.

Hi, friends. One of my favorite ragas is Keeravani. It is the 21st Melakarta ragam and its quite popular in western music as well. It is known as Harmonic minor scale in western music. Many songs have been composed in this raga. Most of Ilaiyaraja's compositions are in this raga.

One such song is Oru Kili Uruguthu song from Anandha Kummi movie. Its a beautiful as well as an innovative composition by Ilaiyaraja in Keeravani ragam. Then, of course the song Keeravani from Paadum Paravaigal is also based on Keeravani raga. Its my favorite song as the fluctuations of the high & low notes are well composed. We can hear the Carnatic touch relevant throughout the song. Another great composition by our Maestro. The popular song Unna Nenachen from Apoorva Sagodharargal is also another example of this raga. The song won a National Award. That makes us believe that Keeravani is obviously a beautiful raga.

'Biriyani' is the upcoming funny ride by Venkat Prabhu. And surprisingly it turns out to be Yuvan's 100th film. Having churned out many hit songs, lets see whether he has hit a century with this movie.

1.Biriyani-Bhavatharini,Tanvi Shah,Vilasini

The intro song of Yuvan's 100th is simply intoxicating!! Its an energetic track that will have you dancing to its funky beats. With an high dosage of rap, Yuvan hits the bull eye with this number. Bhavatharini, Tanvi Shah and Vilasini (popularly known as RJ Hasini) completely enjoy singing this disco song. The electronised flute loops throughout the song makes it more strong.

2.Nahna Na Nah-Devan Ekambaram,Chorus

Here comes the chartbuster of the year. Beginning with an addictive 'Nahna na nah', this technically sound track takes you to different places. The slight melody touch and the instrumentation serves as an icing on the cake. Devan Ekambaram does full justice to the song along with the chorus. Yuvan creates yet another universal flutter with this track.

3.Pom Pom Penne-Rahul Nambiar,Ramya NSK

Yuvan fools you with this track. The number which starts with a lilting piano arrangement and with some sweet lines delivered by Rahul Nambiar, changes its route into a rock n' roll song with the 'Pom Pom Pom' line. The track picks up speed in the interlude and lowers again to a slow rhythm. Ramya is awesome in crooning her part. Overall, the track makes for a good listen.

4.Mississippi-Karthi,Premgi Amaren,Priya Hemesh

Compared to the previous tracks, this one remains out of the show and ends up derailed. But its surprising to hear Karthi sing his lines well. Premgi has nothing much to do in this number and Priya Hemesh sings whatever is meant for her. Though Yuvan has tried a seductive number with an equally seducing beats, somewhere he loses pace along the way.

5.Run For Your Life-Gaana Bala,Psycho Unit

The intro piece of this track speaks the grandeur of the song. Yuvan makes use of all the instruments in this song and the repetitive guitar strums stand out. Psycho Unit's energetic singing makes the track pump up with force. The brief part by Gaana Bala has been given a 80's sound which peps the song. The Mangatha bgm at the end seems to be forced into the track. Overall, its just a passable number.

6.Edhirthu Nil-Yuvan,G.V.Prakash,D.Imman,S.Thaman,Vijay Anthony

Yes, as we listen to this song we get a deja vu of the Nimirndhu Nil track from Venkat's Chennai-28. We see Yuvan collaborating with other popular music directors like G.V,Imman,Thaman and Vijay Anthony. The lyrics of the song encourages us and puts us into a confident mood which the other tracks failed to create. The background beats have been constructed in an offbeat manner which makes the track strongly inspiring. This song might appeal to the modern day youngsters.

7.Nahna Na Nah(Jack Swing Mix)

Yuvan gets a hangover with this particular number. It is instantly addicting unlike the original one. The swinging beats and the techno interlude gets on to your nerves at the very first listen. An innovative remix!

8.Nahna Na Nah(Extended Dance Mix)

Yuvan spoofs all the yearly intros at the beginning and finally ends up with a quirky intro dialog for 2013. This track will soon get into pubs and will have even more DJ mixes. It sounds much similar to Vilayadu Mangatha Remix. But putting the similarities aside, this one makes you dance with full enthusiasm.

Verdict:

Yuvan seems to have got an high voltage shock before composing this soundtrack that it ends up as a funky and enjoyable album sans any melodies. It is an out and out Yuvan diet!!!

Atlee Kumar, a former assistant director to Shankar, debuts with this movie 'Raja Rani'. It is a romantic comedy with Arya & Nayanthara as the leads. G.V.Prakash has composed music for this movie.

1.Hey Baby-G.V.Prakash,Gaana Bala,Aishwarya

The track begins with a beautiful saxophone sound and then forays into an acapella. G.V.Prakash takes over with his husky voice and croons with great style. The lyrics are quirky in nature and they speak about life after marriage from the guy's perspective. The track changes into a kuthu number and there enters Gaana Bala with his usual 'gaana' style. Its like listening to two different songs in a single track. An unheard fusion that is sure to rock.

2.Angnyaade-Shakthisree Gopalan

It is an out and out magical track that sticks on to you after you listen to it. Its a soft folksy melody that has Shakthisree collaborating with G.V for the first time. Her voice stands out in the entire track as she sings with the right attitude. The repetitive 'Angnyaade' line is fun to listen to. The mild guitar strums and the background rythm brings out a track that is endearing to hear. This song deserves a special applause.

3.Chillena-Clinton Serejo,Alphonse,Alka

This is a track that completely relies on rock beats and moves in a racy manner. Clinton who is known for his western songs renders this number with elan. The interludes are well constructed with Alka's voice in the first one and Alphonse's Malayalam part in the second one. The nadaswaram is significantly used which is a plus point in the song. Though this track is similar to G.V's Mazhai Pozhiyum from Muppozhudhum Un Karpanaigal, it makes for a good listen when you go out on a long ride.

4.Unnale-Vandana Srinivasan

Beginning with strings and soft beats, this short piece speaks volumes of melody. Vandana 's soulful singing takes the song to greater levels. Hope G.V could have composed it has a full song. He makes us wanting for more as he did in the case of Adhigaalai Pookal from Thaandavam.

5.Oday Oday-Vijay Prakash,Sasha,Shalmali Kholgade

The track is a combination of hip-hop and rock n' roll in a retro style. Its a peppy number that has some weird singing by Vijay Prakash and Sasha. The mild classical touches by Shalmali in the first interlude adds spice to the song. The repetitive 'Oday Oday' makes the track even more enjoyable. Overall, a foot tapping track.

6.Imaye Imaye-G.V.Prakash,Shakthisree Gopalan

How could a G.V.Prakash album be without a lilting duet melody? Starting with a mesmerising flute prelude and angelic strings, G.V and Shakthisree team up for a scintillating love filled melody that will blow you away. The construction of the entire tune is loveable and melts honey in your ears.

7.A Love For Life-G.V.Prakash,Navin Iyer,Chennai Symphony

This is the instrumental version of 'Imaye' which is once again a beautiful composition. G.V makes use of the piano and keyboard alternatively and creates a fantastic masterpiece. Navin Iyer's flute piece is yet another explicit addition to the already enthralling tune. Finally, the theme ends with the grand performance by Chennai Symphony. 

Verdict:

G.V.Prakash has mixed up all the genres of music into a single soundtrack and has created an album that will be one of the best in 2013!!!!

Harris  Jayaraj is well known for his catchy songs that turn out to be chart-busters. He teams up with Selvaraghavan for the first time in 'Irandam Ulagam' which is touted to be a romantic fantasy movie. Let's see how the tracks have come up:

1.Kanimozhiye-Karthik,Megha

A beautiful melody that starts with lilting guitar strums and Karthik croons this romantic number with his honey-dipping voice. This track has Harris Jayaraj's stamp all over it. The guitar strums in the background adds spice to this breezy number. Megha's soulful humming in the interlude and a brief part in the last stanza deserve a special mention. Overall, a scintillating melody that will swipe your feet off.

2.En Kaadhal Thee-S.P.Balasubramaniam

SPB is the hero of this song. He renders this lovely melody with his flawless and evergreen voice. With a striking rhythm pattern, this song contains classical touches which is evident throughout the number. The violin interlude is simply awesome and the angelic female chorus takes the song to the next level. A different attempt by Harris. This track is sure to be liked by classical melody lovers.

3.Mannavane En Mannavane-Gopal Rao,Shakthisree

This is the only duet in the album and it is that one song in every Harris' album that will overflow with sweet melody. As you begin to listen to this track, you might feel that it is yet another westernized melody. But the track takes a different turn and ends up as a folksy duet. Shakthisree's voice tugs at your heart and makes you get lost in the melody world. Gopal Rao matches her very well and he is yet another singer to look out for in the industry. Overall, this track is the best of the lot and blows your soul away.

4.Vinnaithaandi Anbe-Vijay Prakash

Harris knows how to weave up a melody inside techno beats and electronic sounds. This number has foot-tapping beats and some good singing by Vijay Prakash. Vairamuthu's lyrics are love filled and stands out in the entire song. You might not like this track at its first listen. But it grows on you gradually with its catchy tune. Though it reminds of Harris' previous compositions, it lingers in your mind for a long time.

5.Panangkalla Vishamulla-Dhanush,Megha

Yet another Dhanush song with lyrics that speak about love failure and betrayal. Though its a soft folk number, you will surely get tired of it as Dhanush gets stereotyped with this song. But the lyrics by Vairamuthu are stronger than the previous songs Dhanush has sang. The humming by Megha brings a moment of freshness to the song. Though the track might find a place in the charts, there is nothing new in it. But its a different composition by Harris who has composed out of his comfort zone.

6.Raakozhi Raakozhi-Hariharan,Sriram

And here is the other world song with its queer sounds and weird orchestration. Its like hearing a tribal folk song with pumped up energy. But there is a genuine touch of melody in the charanams. Hariharan and Sriram have sung the song with great power and darkness in their voice. This song would do well once the visuals are released.

7.Irandam Ulagam Theme

Finally, Harris sums up all the elements of the entire album into a single theme music. The entire composition is grand with its eerie choir and horning sounds. Harris needs a special applause for composing this grand theme.

Verdict:

It is a different attempt by Harris Jayaraj and it doesn't give you a deja vu feeling. Whatever genre be the songs, there is a slight streak of melody in each one. This shows Harris capability of composing good melodies. Harris-Selva combination rocks!!!

The song begins with mild guitar strums and a mesmerising saxophone prelude. Then Papon takes over the song with his westernized rendition. Soon the track picks up pace from 'Neram maarellam' line. The charanam consists of foot tapping beats and you get to feel Anirudh's magic. It makes for a breezy listen, especially along with your friends on an outing!!!

2.Osaka Osaka-Anirudh,Pragathi

When this track begins with 'Theni kaathu' in Anirudh's voice, you come to know that this one will be entirely different from the previous track. Yes, this one is a different folk number. You will get instantly addicted to it in the first listen as it has a catchy tune. Anirudh's dialect while rendering is perfect and Pragathi accompanies him in the 2nd stanza with her rustic voice. The scintillating violin prelude and Madan Karky's lyrics have to be mentioned especially. Overall, this track is the highlight of the album.

3.Oh Penne-Vishal Dadlani,Anirudh

I don't know in which situation Anirudh composed this song because its just mindblowing!!! Beginning with quirky piano sounds, the track has renowned Bollywood composer Vishal Dadlani crooning 'Un kaigal korthu unnodu poga...'. His Tamil rendition is flawless and he makes us wanting for more. As usual, Anirudh takes over in the charanam with his amazing voice. This track is a stylish romantic number and lingers in our mind for a long time. Though it is similar to 'Idhazhin oram' and 'Nijamellam maranthupochu', it has its own unique style which you cant get over.

4.Chennai City Gangsta-Hiphop Tamizha,Anirudh,Hard Kaur

Yet another 'Ethir Neechal Adi' type of song. Its purely energetic and gets you on the dance floor. Beginning with Country Chicken sounds, it moves on to some quirky singing by Hiphop Tamizha with his weird lyrics. Hard Kaur makes the song even more enjoyable with her powerful voice. Overall, a typical 'gangsta' song.

5.Engadi Porandhe-Anirudh,Andrea Jeremiah

This track begins with gaana type beats and swishes into an unexpected song. It is much of a debate between the lead singers rather than a complete song. It has funny lyrics that would be surely enjoyed by everyone. Overall, a passable number that will have you laughing at the end.

6.Ailasa Ailasa-Suchitra,Anirudh

This is the unplugged version 'Osaka Osaka' with different set of lyrics. The entire track belongs only to Suchitra as her voice overflows with sweetness all over. It is surprising to hear her in a modulated tone. Anirudh makes use of the nadaswaram in the best manner. Once again he proves he is capable of using special instruments for different situations. A beautiful number that will have you in loop.

7.Oh Penne(International)-Arjun,Charles Bosco

The international version of 'Oh Penne' song reminds us of the hundreds of songs composed in Hollywood. The song has a global feel to it mainly because of Arjun's rendition. Hailing from UK, he yields the megaphone with ease. Of course, the charanam by Anirudh is retained here which is bit disappointing. Other than that, it is a stylish number that can be played along with other English songs in your playlist.

Verdict:

Anirudh once again comes up with a peppy album that is sure to rock the charts for a long time. Though shades of his previous works could be seen, it soon fades away as the album progresses.

Vijay Antony has always been surprising us with his quirky words songs and lilting melodies. He comes up with another melody filled album Iruvar Ullam. Let us see how the songs have shaped up.

1.Kannadi Silaiye-Santhosh Hariharan,Sangeetha Rajeshwaran

This track begins with a beautiful piano piece. Then, Santhosh takes over the song with elan. His voice suits best for such melody songs. Sangeetha croons her part very well. It is a simple melody and hooks on to you on the first listen. It is sure to be played in all radio stations especially for its catchy tune. Hummable and a typical Vijay Antony duet. Overall, a pleasant start to the album.

2.Kaadhal Kiliye-Haricharan

The number begins with a melancholic tone and forays into a pathos mood. The lyrics ooze with sadness all over. Haricharan is heard nowadays almost in every song. And of course, he is the only one who could have done justice to this song. He renders it with such an energy that you will feel attracted to this number. A love failure song that will be surely liked by those in heartbreak.

3.Udalgal Rendum-Nivas,M.M.Manasi

Starting with a strings prelude, this song moves on to ecstatic beats. It sounds more like a G.V.Prakash duet. But the track has its own moments. M.M.Manasi is the heroine of this song and her rendition is slick and stylish. Nivas complements her well in a husky tone. The beats take up speed before the second charanam and you will find yourself dancing to it. Though its not catchy, it can be considered a passable one.

4.Mazhaiye Mazhaiye-Andrea Jeremiah

This track is the highlight of the album. It is a westernized melody and it contains a lot of substance. Andrea Jeremiah takes the song to another world. You could play this song on repeat mode just to listen to her voice. With a catchy tune and wonderful beats, I am sure that this song would find a good place in the charts. Overall, a danceable number that will linger on your mind for a long time.

5.Aadum Nenje-Sunitha Sarathy

This is a typical club number with sensuos lyrics sans electro beats. The violin and the hard rock guitar preludes have to be mentioned specially. This track is a sort of comeback for Sunitha Sarathy who is well known for her stylish songs. The backup vocals are also good. Overall, its just like any other western song that Vijay Antony would compose.

Verdict:

Vijay Antony has come up with a neat album containing a mix of melody and western. Thank God, there is no quirky words song in this album !!!!!!!

Raanjhanaa-Music Review

The soundtrack of Raanjhanaa was one of the most highly expected albums.So,here comes A.R.Rahman with another masterpiece.

1.Raanjhanaa-Shiraz Uppal,Jaswinder Singh

This is the title track of the album.It is a fast paced number and lifts your spirits up.Especially the line Raanjhanaa hua mein tera is awesome.Shiraz Uppal's rendition is flawless.A.R.Rahman has made use of minimal instruments in this song.Overall,this song makes you happy whenever you hear it.

2.Banarasiya-Shreya Ghoshal,Anwesha Datta Gupta,Meenal Jain

As you start listening to this track,you will feel traditionally drenched.The regional music makes the song an enjoyable one.It is another feather in Shreya Ghoshal's cap.The song overflows with her sweet voice.The backing vocals of Anwesha and Meenal are also equally good.This track is the first highlight of the album.

3.Piya milenge-Sukhwinder Singh,K.M.M.C Sufi Ensemble

The song begins with an upbeat sound and a divine chorus by Sufi Ensemble of K.M Music Conservatory.As the song progresses,you feel more attracted to it.Sukhwinder Singh has done full justice to this number with his powerful voice.Its a beautiful Sufi song & it ends up as one of the gems of A.R.Rahman.

4.Ay sakhi-Madhushree,Chinmayee,Vaishali,Aanchal Sethi

Though this track is much similar to Banarasiya,it has to be appreciated for its construction.A.R.Rahman experiments well with this song & makes use of innovative sounds like tyun tyun tyun with the singers' voice itself.The song has three different voices & each one has an equal share.Its a fun & enjoyable track.

5.Nazar laaye-Rashid Ali,Neeti Mohan

This is the only duet of the album & it sounds much like Ishq wala love from Student of the year.Its mainly because of Rashid Ali's husky voice & Neeti Mohan's westernized rendition.This number has A.R.Rahman's stamp all over it.Overall,its a passable one & grows on you after a few listens.

6.Tu mun shudi-A.R.Rahman,Rabbi Shergill

This is another anthem from A.R.Rahman.It joins the bandwagon of Dhakka laga bukka from Yuva (Jana gana mana from Ayudhaezhuthu).It has an attractive beginning & you might find yourself humming to it after a few listens.Rabbi Shergill of Challa fame has done a good job in this song.

7.Aise na dekho-A.R.Rahman,Karthik

Yes,as you listen to this song,you will find the resemblance to Tu bole from JTYJN.The arrangement of instruments & the orchestration are similar to it.A.R.Rahman's voice also has the same feeling which he had for Tu bole.But it doesn't match to the previous track.

8.The Land of Shiva-Instrumental

This is just an instrumental piece from ARR.It is like a Shiva thandavam & the sound of conch shell dominates this track.It is best suitable for playing during auspicious ceremonies in your home.

9.Tum tak-Javed Ali,A.V.Pooja,Keerthi Sagathia

Tum tak is the second highlight of the album.With the intro of piano music,Javed Ali's purely divine voice takes you to a magical world. A.R.Rahman has used Shehnai as the main instrument & it puts you in a festive mood of love.A.V Pooja has sung her part with full energy & it stands out in the entire track.Kudos to ARR for bringing out such a lovely song.

Verdict:

I give a 4 out of 5 rating for this album.Once again A.R.Rahman has done a wonderful job in creating this fantastic soundtrack.Go for it !!!
